Experiencing Mardi Gras
/Bienvenue en Louisiane! We have all heard about the Mardi Gras tradition in NOLA (New Orleans, Louisiana), but how many of us have really lived it? Mardi Gras is about music, parades, picnics, floats and excitement. And it’s one big holiday in NOLA!
The origins of Mardi Gras can be traced all the way back to Medieval Europe where everything has a meaning. The history of this festivity continue to influence how things are done today. And at some point you may ask yourself, why the colors Purple, Green, and Gold?
Because each color symbolizes something different. Purple Represents Justice, Green Represents Faith, and Gold Represents Power. Another popular custom is the baking of a “King Cake” in honor of the three kings, which are seen throughout the entire year.
Bourbon Street on Mardi Gras
And oh Bourbon Street! There is so much to see and so much to say. It is one of those things you just need to experience once in your life during the Mardi Gras season. Find yourself a nice view from a balcony and enjoy the show!
Lake Pontchartrain
About 30 miles North of NOLA you cross the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway that takes you right into the city of Mandeville where you will find one of the most cozy and charming places for breakfast in town – Welcome to LaLou! I always begin with the Mixed Berry Waffle Bites and as for my main dish, I try a different Omelet every time!
I encourage each and every one of you to experience this beautiful city that holds a lot of history and tradition that will leave you wanting more. Enjoy!
